I stumbled upon this piece (cross-posted on Fetlife), and have shared it with a few friends, as well as on my twitter feed. I wanted to make sure I include it here also, as I think it helps understand and illustrate the multiple layers of responses happening in impact play, like spanking. Some of it is about the sensation, and some of it is about how the body responds to that stimuli...and some of it is about what is going on in our own heads! Our own perceptions, fantasies, etc. that also play a role in how we process scenes, as either Tops/Dommes/Doms or bottoms/subs.
I love learning about the science that happens in our bodies, not only in demystifying things like our emotional response, but also in just better understanding why our bodies react they way they do.
This is a great piece about the neuroscience of spanking, and is IMO an essential read for anyone who wants or hopes to learn how to give a good spanking. If you think it's just about smacking a hand across an ass, you are missing out on SO MUCH!!
